ordering from KM The thread about oxbow v.s. KM has convinced me I need a better quality pellet than I get at PetCo. I think my piggies are around 2-3 mos. old. They are quite small. I wanted to know which kind of pellet I should buy from KM...alfalfa or timothy based? Also, what about the hay. I was thinking to get a little of everything to see which they liked the best. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Re: ordering from KM Your guinea pigs need alfalfa based pellets until they are one year old. Then you switch to timothy based pellets. Any grass hay is good.

Re: ordering from KM There's no sweeter, quality timothy than KM's 3rd cut timothy. It is truly superior.

Re: ordering from KM KM is out of the timothy 3rd cut for the season....hopefully, there will be more later in the year...as she says, 3rd cut is a gift... I had to buy 2nd cut timothy hay....still, better then anything else out there...Oxbow doesn't even come close.... I can't wait for the 3rd cut to become available again....the piggies love it so!!

Re: ordering from KM I thought they can have Alfalfa based pellets, but they can hae Timothy as well? Or am I thinking of hay? ***For another brand of hay and or pellets suggestion, you can try Sweet Meadow. I just started feeding the Sweet Meadow Type to Coco and now he eats it like there is no tomorrow! ![]()

Re: ordering from KM Pellets can be alfalfa based or timothy hay based... All my piggies are older so they get KM's timothy hay based pellets and timothy hay...I've tried a couple of other hays but they love timothy hay the best...

Re: ordering from KM The way Rabbitsncavyluv worded it was they should have Alfalfa then just switch when they are 1 year old. I have been told that they should always have some sort of grass hay based pellets, and Alfalfa based should be supplemental. But as I posted previously, I could be thinking of hay.

Re: ordering from KM Rabbits worded her post correctly. You can feed alfalfa based pellets until they are anywhere between 6 months and one year. Then at either 6 months or 1 year (or anywhere inbetween) you can change to timothy based pellets. On the hay, you can feed alfalfa hay as a supplement for the first few months or as an occasional treat for older pigs, but they always need grass hay from the day they are born such as timothy, orchard, sweet meadow, bluegrass, bermuda, etc.

Re: ordering from KM about how much do you guys order each order? What does your typical order look like? I want to get a lot, but not too much. I have a garage I can store things in, I just don't want to get too much and have it go bad or something on me. I have two piggies by the way. Thanks in advance!
