Bran Mash I haven't seen anyone talking about this delicacy which surprised me! My pigs past and present love bran mash. Its so simple, all you do is mix some bran mash flakes (which are really cheap, I get mine from a health food shop) with warm water. If you try it out I would be interested to see if other people's pigs love it as much as mine did/Ozzy does

Re: Bran Mash The only problem I see with this is that bran is a part of the grain in wheat, rice, corn, oats and millet (it's the hard outer layer). Many grains are hard for cavies to digest so I wouldn't recommend feeding something like this.

Re: Bran Mash Mine eat this once in awhile, too and absolutely love it! I read about it on a site before I found this one and they love it so much that I wasn't going to stop it cause it sure doesn't seem to hurt them any according to my Vet!

Re: Bran Mash Bran mash isn't even good for horses. The pigs and horses may like it but it's hard on their digestive tract. It can lead to health issues especially if given frequently. Occasionally some people will use oats or oatmeal in small amounts to add weight to sick or elderly pigs but a better choice for a treat is a pellet mash. Here is an example of a pellet mash I made for mine last christmas: aqh88/guinea pigs/past/christmas - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting It's pellets soaked in plain fruit juice with bits of chopped up carrots, apples, and cilantro. You can serve it warm or cold but if you heat things it's better to use hot water or place it on the stove than just microwaving it. The microwave breaks down nutrients and lessens the flavor. Plain fruit juice has no added sugars like fructose, corn syrup, or sucrose. I used blueberry Naked Juice. Odwalla is also a popular plain fruit juice mix that people have used to flavor things like pellet mash for sick pigs.
