| Hey, I last filled Honey's food dish on Wendesday and it hasnt been getting much lower. I also fed her lettuce today and she barley eats it. She also is thinner. What should i do? I'm worried she might be sick. It doesnt seem serious yet. If i were to take her to the vet, i would probaly have to pay for it and i dont have that much money. Help! She is 5 1/2 years old. |

| Re: I'm worried my guinea pig isnt eating! You need to take her to the vet. Not eating and getting thinner is definately a sign that something is wrong. Maybe the vet can work out a payment plan with you. Good luck. I hope she is ok. |

A qualified vet is where you should be taking your guinea pig. |

| Re: I'm worried my guinea pig isnt eating! One thing you need to be doing is weighing your pig every day, that way you can verify if your pig is actually losing weight and how much. You should also be measuring how much food you put out every day and how much is left at the end of the day, to verify how much food was eaten. If the pig is not eaten and is losing weight, this is an issue that needs to be addressed by a vet. It is not something that can or should wait. Just because it doesn't seem serious does not mean that it is not serious or that it will not become serious. The best thing you can do is to address the problem as early as possible - that way you minimize the chance of it *becoming* serious. Take your pig to the vet. Try to work out a payment plan. If you truly have no way to afford vet care, then this is probably not the right time in your life to have the responsibility for a pet. If that's your situation, it's unfortunate, but you should probably start trying to rehome the pig to someone who can afford to get her the vet care she needs ASAP. Quote:

| Re: I'm worried my guinea pig isnt eating! I would really suggest taking him/her to the vet. It could possibly have a malloclusion (sp?). Before you take him/her to the vet, check its teeth. If the top ones look like they are curled up, then it really needs to go to the vet since it will die from the pain of its teeth inside his/her gums, or starvation. |

| Re: I'm worried my guinea pig isnt eating! A pig that's not eating and losing weight is definitely "serious." Talk to the vet's office on the phone and let them know you need to bring her in but that you can't afford much but will make payments to them if it's necessary. A lot of places will work with you - Good luck to you and your girl! |

| Re: I'm worried my guinea pig isnt eating! You need to take your guinea pig to a good vet. And get a kitchen scale Guinea Lynx :: Weigh Weekly! By the time you notice any weight loss, your pig is often very ill. |

| Re: I'm worried my guinea pig isnt eating! I agree with the others, she really does need to be seen by a vet. This isn't optional, it's not a mere "good idea", it's an absolute MUST. Not eating can indicate a serious problem. I have had piggies not eat before, been to the vets, given treatment and they have been fine. The vet visit can save her life. I don't know where you're located but in the UK we have the PDSA, many people who cannot afford the full vets bills take their pets there. I believe there may be something in the RCVS code which states that if treatment cannot be paid for in full then something has to be worked out for the payment and treatment still given. If you don't ask you will never know. |

| Re: I'm worried my guinea pig isnt eating! GET HER TO A VET! The cost of the care is considerably cheaper than feeling lousy because you didn't. I'll be thinking of you and Honey. |
