On tv there is an infomercial about this container you can buy for tomatoes so they grow upside down since they are so heavy. It looks like a cylinder where you put the soil on top then in a cut out on the bottom you put in the tomato plant upside down. I thought that looked like it may work for bell peppers too since they are heavy like tomatoes. Does anyone else think it would work for bell peppers? I'm buying 14 bell peppers a week and thought it would be nice to grow some this summer to keep from buying so many. I'm sorry I don't have a link for this product since it's just on tv that I've seen it. ![]()

Re: Question about bell peppers. Bell peppers here cost 2.98 or 3.98 each. I don't know if it will work with bell peppers beause they are bulky and need plenty of room in order to grow.

Re: Question about bell peppers. I think that may work you could try and let us know! Green bell peppers here cost 98 cents for a large one. My grandma grew some bell peppers and gave us some and I have to say the piggies liked them more than store bought.

Re: Question about bell peppers. I think my guinea pig is the only one in the whole world that doesn't like bell peppers, cucumber or tomato. Her diet gets kind of boring if I don't watch out. Maybe if I grow some veggies this year they'll taste different to her. I know that I can't wait for it to be warmer to start my garden. There's nothing like a fresh salad made from your own backyard veggies.

Re: Question about bell peppers. I can't imagine growing the bell peppers upside down, not sure how their stems would hold up to gravity. We have very good luck here with volume in our garden, except for corn! Of course, we had rain for something like two and a half straight months last summer. Sure that helped, the cloud cover helped keep from scorching the tender produce. My Sweetie had more fun and grew to love my initial piggie, Little Skittles, as she'd wheek every time he came in the kitchen and would pop a homegrown cherry tomato in his mouth... she wanted hers, too!!! He had a friend; now we have four little girls and he has more fun seeing them each display their own individual personality for their fave vege. We have constucted a green house to start plants, since we can't plant until June in our location. I can't imagine how tomatoes would gro upside down, this I'd have to see. Will search the internet for such a product to understand it better. I can't help but imagine that you won't still have to "dig" the tomatoes out from the leaves. Hmmmmm I never had a problem with them falling off the vines, unless they over-ripened. The cost of produce has absolutely sky-rocketed with the recent fuel pricing. But the piggies do reign in our household and they will not go without...

Re: Question about bell peppers. What I'm doing this year for peppers buying one. Then I harvest all of the seeds. I wrap them in paper towel for ten days. Then I plant them inside, then I plant them outside! It saves some money!

Re: Question about bell peppers. Here's what I found for the Topsy Turvy Tomato Planter and here is the video. It says it works for cucumbers, zuchini, bell peppers and herbs. And while I was looking I found these. Fridge Balls. hmmmmm wonder if they really work.

Re: Question about bell peppers. Is right about now a good time to plant green and/or yellow bell pepper seeds? I live in Asheville, North Carolina, and the temperature has been fluctuating a bit here, but I really don't think it'll frost again until next fall. I think I'll buy some green/yellow bell pepper seeds from a nursery or Lowe's/Home Depot/WalMart. Do they need full sun? Oh, well I guess the seed packet would say that. Does anyone know what they really do best in? Thanks!! I'm going to grow them organically as possible, with organic plant food to boot. Thanks everyone for the idea! Now I get to drive again, yay(I'm at that age which is unmentionable on here that you actually like driving). Hugs&Wheeks, Katelyn P.S.: I want to try that Topsy Turvy thing too!! I'm going to QVC.com – The Official Site to see if they sell something like that.

| Re: Question about bell peppers. Wow.....they got really pretty bad reviews on that website.... I would get that steel pole the one review talked about. Most of the bad reviews said the planter gets very very heavy when filled with soil and watered, and most places aren't strong enough to hang them. She said get a steel pole at least 2"-3" thick around. She also said the people there from the company are really nice and helpful. Good luck! Last edited by sophistacavy : 04-06-08 at 06:56 pm.
