Romaine Lettuce - not good everyday? My pigs have been getting Romaine lettuce everyday since we cannot find any other lettuces in our local Tesco. However I have just read that due to calcium amount in Romaine it should not be fed every day? So now I'm worried about stones etc . If this is true I am going to search high and low for another lettuce...any ideas which ones are good for everyday or most days? Also how oftern should you feed Romaine then if its not okay everyday?

Re: Romaine Lettuce - not good everyday? I rotate my lettuces so romaine/cos would be on Monday morning, round lettuce or endive on Monday evening and then Tuesday morning would be a packeted lettuce with radicchio and lambs lettuce in it. Then back to romaine on Tuesday evening. I do it like that because one of my pigs hates round lettuce but the others love it but then the pig that hates round lettuce loves romaine and the other 2 aren’t so keen on it, if you understand that

| Re: Romaine Lettuce - not good everyday? You can feed romaine lettuce almost daily, so it says on the chart: You can find this chart and the others on this sticky thread: http://www.guineapigcages.com/forum/...arts-info.html Last edited by Ly&Pigs : 03-23-08 at 12:21 pm. | Re: Romaine Lettuce - not good everyday? Do you not have a local farm shop or Green grocers? My grocers are charging £1.40 for a small head of endive at the moment so I am resorting to buying bagged lettuce from tesco. I buy the Florette crispy bag, the tesco's own butterhead and four leaf salad. You can always add in, if you haven't already.. round lettuce and little gem. My pigs also like lambs lettuce but it can make them gassy! :P |

Re: Romaine Lettuce - not good everyday? Thanks for the replies everyone! Glad it can be fed most days, we dont have a local grousers etc which is a shame the only other option would be the carboot where market stalls go to but they only run through the summer. It was on Guinea Lynx: Guinea Lynx :: Topic - Why Limit Carrots? Bethie said she feeds it all the time, and then others have said it shouldn't be fed all the time.

Re: Romaine Lettuce - not good everyday? Is it true that too much Romaine lettuce can cause soft poo? I remember reading that on this forum somewhere. If that's the case, it wouldn't be a good daily food, right?

Re: Romaine Lettuce - not good everyday? If you were feeding a head or more of lettuce per pig every day then yeah, you may get soft poo, but just feeding 2-4 leaves per pig daily shouldn't cause soft poos.

Re: Romaine Lettuce - not good everyday? Romaine has an inverse Ca:Ph ratio, so it should be balanced out with a food that has a higher ratio.
