Is Kleenmama better than Oxbow? I feed Oxbow, basically because it's what they recommend at the vet, but I've been reading some things lately that say Kleenmama is preferred over Oxbow, so I'm hoping some wise guinea pig owner can clear up the mystery for me. Thanks.

Re: Is Kleenmama better than Oxbow? I received my first box of KM (3rd cut timothy) hay yesterday and it is much nicer than the Oxbow hay. It smells, looks and feels delicious and since there are hardly any hard stems in it I think we will have less waste. And it was half the price than the Oxbow hay from the feed store. I think I will try the KM pellets next, they are cheaper too and I heard only good things about them.

Re: Is Kleenmama better than Oxbow? I've tried both, and Kleenmamamas is #1! It is so green and fresh smelling and my pigs go nuts for it! The Oxbow hay I had was so pale looking next to KM's. You won't be disapointed if you order from KM's!

Re: Is Kleenmama better than Oxbow? From what I hear, they are both great. But I hear more positive comments about KM's than Oxbow!

Re: Is Kleenmama better than Oxbow? By far in my eyes, kleenmama's is better the Oxbow, and more affordable too!

Re: Is Kleenmama better than Oxbow? They are both quality feeds. Pigs love KM though. It's like piggie crack.

Re: Is Kleenmama better than Oxbow? My piggies like KM better. We just tried the bluegrass hay, and the piggies go nuts for it! The piggies love the KM pellets, too! We tried Oxbow pellets and hay and the piggies ate it, but they wasted a lot of it, also. I really don't think they liked it very much! They certainly did not go nuts for the Oxbow!

Re: Is Kleenmama better than Oxbow? Oxbow is of a high quality. I feed it to my girls (partly because KMs cant ship to Australia) and they are thriving. KMs is though, handsdown, overall better.

Re: Is Kleenmama better than Oxbow? KM is out of 3rd cutting timothy hay, I am debating on 1/2 bluegrass-1/2 2end cutting timothy or just bluegrass. Is there any nutritional difference I should consider before I buy?

| Re: Is Kleenmama better than Oxbow? I bought Oxbow pellets and hay and my piggy likes it- the hay seems to be of good quality compared to other brands. However, like others have said, KM is even better in quality and cheaper than Oxbow. I'm hoping to try the hay from KM sometime as I'd love to see the difference but also because I want the absolute best for my piggy! I just wish there was a closer supplier of KM as the shipping costs run rather high for the area where I live. Does anyone know what cut the Oxbow Timothy hay is? It doesn't say on the bag, but it seems that there are way too many seed heads in my bag for it to be 3rd cut. It may be a mixture? Third cut is most liked by pigs though, am I right? | Re: Is Kleenmama better than Oxbow? Naturegal, I'd go ahead and get all bluegrass. There are minor differences in nutrition in hay but most grass hays are pretty much the same. Some have a tiny bit higher protein and some have a bit more moisture content. It also has to do with where it's grown, soil conditions, weather, etc. |
| Thank you Ly&Pigs for this useful post, says: | ||

Re: Is Kleenmama better than Oxbow? Ly, do you prefer KM's pellets to Oxbow? Also, when nest season rolls around what do you think about KM's 3rd cutting to the bluegrass? Thanks for your input.

Re: Is Kleenmama better than Oxbow? I've never tried oxbow pellets but have tried KM's pellets. I know KM formulated hers with a guinea pigs nutrition in mind because there weren't many good brands out. I have had both KM's bluegrass and 3rd cut. Both are wonderful.

Re: Is Kleenmama better than Oxbow? I feed my guineas Oxbow pellets and KM hay. I haven't tried the KM pellets, but my guineas love the hay. They also love their pellets, I figure, for me at least, if its not broke don't fix it. Especially since I know Oxbow is a good quality pellet.

Re: Is Kleenmama better than Oxbow? My chins and pigs are not interested in oxbow hay. In my opinion, American Pet Diner and KM are the way to go. I love KM, but I usually go with APD because it comes so neat and clean in the bag. I find it to have a bit better smell and is very consistant. We always say "Well, no one goes through the hay and checks for bugs," but the APD seems like someone did! KM is privately/individually operated and I like supporting that, however. I do feed oxbow pellets, because I can get it locally without shipping costs and it seems to be a quality product and always has a very recent mill date around here.

Re: Is Kleenmama better than Oxbow? I also feed Oxbow pellets and KM hay. I have used KM pellets in the past, but my two seem to prefer the Oxbow. I do keep a small amount of KM pellets on hand and use them like treats.
