| grams and cups I've always been confused when I tried to measure my piggies veggies in cups. Do you pack it or keep it lose? Maybe I'm a bit anal or overcautious, but I want to know that I'm feeding enough. Today I found a German guinea pig site (not sure if I'm allowed to post a link here or how many people here can read German). Anyway, on this site they mention feeding 80-100 grams of veggies/fruit per cavy daily. Tonight I weighed my 2 piggies dinner and it was 92 grams. Yay!!! Now I can just eyeball it and be sure it's a good amount. |

| Re: grams and cups I usually eyeball it as well. I've noticed how much they tend to eat in one sitting (I don't like their food sitting for more than 20 minutes after they finish) and give them an approximate amount. |

| Re: grams and cups I always eyeball it too.If you are off a little, it won't make the guinea pig gain weight in the blink of an eye. If you are worried about their weight, weigh them. I would not worry about it too too much. |

| Re: grams and cups I just sorta eyeball it too, but I know that they get enough. They actually get alot more than enough  They get 1 1/2 - 2 cups of leafy greens (plus the other vegs) 2 times a day. So in all reality each pig gets 1 1/2 - 2 cups of a leafy greens a day, divided into 2 meals. Also auburnmare- I don't think that veggies will make them gain wieght, unless maybe if you are feeding them too often or too much (ie. feeding 5-10 baby carrots per meal, fruits everyday, etc.) |

| Re: grams and cups Jenni, for me the problem is: how do you measure leafy veggies in a cups? A cup of really small pieces will probably pack more densely and therefore beheavier than bigger pieces. To me measuring in grams or ounces just makes more sense. BTW, I better get off the computer, there's a piggie mutiny in progress downstairs. Do you think they can sense when I type the word "veggies"? |
