alfalfa hay - stink?

I've got two sows. One is under weight. The other may be pregnant. They came to me eating alfalfa hay, and I though their poop stunk. I took them off the alfalfa, and the stink went away. I decided to add in a little alfalfa hay again, and now their poop stinks again. Is this common with alfalfa hay, or am I incorrectly suspecting it?
