| Yes,the title says most of my current problem,I have a guinea pig that only likes carrots as a treat. She eats pellots, hay also, but I dont know why she doesnt like anything like fresh veggies and fruit I've offered her.I've tried cucumbers, parsley,a little bit of mint, she eats a few bites of apple then reject the rest of the peice I've given her,I've tried some Romaine lettuce but got same results, and I know that guinea pigs can eat carrots, but I know that too much isnt good for guinea pigs..I'm at my wits end, does anyone else know how to deal with a picky guinea pig? |

| Re: Guinea Pig that only likes carrots... I've heard (and will be trying soon with a red bell pepper) that if you keep on offering the veggie to the cavy, every day, consistently, that eventually (some cavies can take several weeks of wasted veggies I heard) their curiosity will overpower them, and they will eat it. This also might not work with every single cavy, so don't take my word for it, but I'd definitely still try it. Hope this helps you and your guinea pigs! P.S.: I've also read that cavies don't like their veggies cold, and prefer to eat them once they've reached room temperature. Try letting the veggie sit out at room temperature for a bit, check on it to see if its there yet. I would find an airtight container to let it reach room temp. in, so its not just sitting out in open air, going bad. =) Good luck! Last edited by sophistacavy : 03-05-08 at 07:02 pm. | Re: Guinea Pig that only likes carrots... Give the bell peppers a whirl. They have the highest amount of vitamin C for a veggy that can be feed daily to your pig. The green and red variety are the best, as they are less sweet in taste. Just be persistent. Good luck and keep us updated |

Cavycudder, how often have you tried feeding the other veggies you mentioned? Have you left these things sit in the cage for a couple hours? Have you given carrot at the same time as these other things? |

| Re: Guinea Pig that only likes carrots... I think bell peppers would be a great veggie to try. My boys would be so mad if I didn't give them their daily bell pepper. Cilantro is another big hit at my house. As for lettuces, they love butter lettuce and red and green leaf lettuce. Just don't give up, some piggies just take a little more time to get used to veggies. Have you tried holding your girl and hand feeding her? My piggies love to be held while they eat out of my hand. Good luck! |

| Re: Guinea Pig that only likes carrots... My Coco is the same way. He thinks veggies are veggies! He does not care he looks at me as if he is saying "Come on, come on more veggies!" I could pull a pepper out of the fridge now, freezing cold, and he would eat it just as fast as one at room temperature! |

| Re: Guinea Pig that only likes carrots... I've noticed the temperature thing a bit with my pigs, not so much with veggies, but they don't seem to like their water when it's cold. I usually try to fill their water bottles with water around room temperature. You know what you could try... you know those bags of mixed greens at the grocery store? Like pre-washed and chopped up and stuff? Some of them have shreds of carrots in them. You could get a bag with a whole mix of stuff, and it especially might work if it has some of the shreds of carrots in it. |
