HI My hubby (who was trying to be helpful) came home with green onions. Can my pigs eat them? I looked but I could not find any posts about it. (They already had romaine lettuce and a carrot each this am). Thanks

Re: Green onions ok? There are posts on this question but they may have to be dug up. They can have green onion tops in moderation once in a while. Don't feed the bulb or white portions. My girls enjoy them but many pigs don't like them. Leek tops can also be fed and the green tops of chives, both fed like green onion tops.

Re: Green onions ok? Thanks! I gave them the tops and they seemed to like them (just not as much as the other veggies they get).

Re: Green onions ok? Good question, Turtle_luver2. I was wondering the same thing when I was at the store yesterday. But since the green onions aren't on "the list" and I didn't need any, I didn't buy them.

Re: Green onions ok? I read on some not-so-great site that eating onions can make them smell. Probably marginally true, but I thought it as funny. Piggies with onion breath.

Re: Green onions ok? No garlic for piggies! I never noticed my girls smelling more like onions when they've had green onion tops or leek tops but their urine did smell a bit stronger.

Re: Green onions ok? I had to go do some shopping for my boys anyway, so after reading this post I also threw some green onions in the cart. I thought maybe they'd like the tops... but no such luck. They nibbled them, dropped them, and walked away. Two hours later, all the other veggies were gone, and there lay the green onions. LOL

Re: Green onions ok? pig-in-paradise- I knew you were kidding but I didn't want any new member to get the wrong idea and try to feed their piggie garlic. Sometimes people don't really read whole threads, they just skim. I did mention that not all pigs will like green onion tops. They are a bit on the spicy side for pigs and only those pigs with a taste for them will eat them.
