? about food

I was wondering if I can feed my guinea pigs rudabagas? I looked on the diet menu and I did not see them. I did see a r word food, but I am not sure what it is. If they can eat them how often should I feed it to them?

Re: ? about food

That would be rutabagas and I have no knowledge of if they are safe to feed or not. I'd skip them if I were you. The R food that you saw was Radicchio and it's a type of lettuce.

Re: ? about food

Radicchio looks like red cabbage but it has white veins instead of purple. And like Ly said it is a lettuce. My piggies LOVE it!

Question Re: ? about food

Thank you both so much. I have to say I am lost when I read some of the names of veggies, I guess I should eat more myself so I will know more about them. I will stay away from the ruabagas. I was wondering is there anything I can do to make my lettuce stay freasher longer? I only had mine for 2-3 days and already had to throw it out.

Re: ? about food

What kind of lettuce?

I buy romaine lettuce and radicchio and with the romaine I open the bag, wash only what I am going to use, and then stuff paper towels in the bag with the lettuce to keep it dry. The radicchio is a small head of lettuce and I tear off what I am going to use, wash what I am using, and wrap the rest of the head up in paper towels and put it into a baggie.

I replace the paper towels every time I use the lettuce.

Some people use a container and put layers of lettuce/paper towel/lettuce etc. until the container is full. The fuller the container the longer the lettuce will last!

I also use paper towels in the bag with my cilantro, parsley, leaf lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower, etc.

I think the key to longer lasting veggies is to keep it dry and free of air in the container/bag!

Re: ? about food

Thank you that was very helpful. I did know to keep the air out but I did not realize to keep everything dry. I will do that.
