Am I over feeding pellets? I have a 1/4 scoop in the bag. I fill it three times once a day. I just looked at the Oxbow bag and it has 1/8 cup for one GP over 6 months. I have two. Do I just cut back? That seems like such a small amount.

Re: Am I over feeding pellets? Since you have two gp's you should put 1/8 cup in the morning, and 1/8 cup in the evening. And at least one cup of veggies per day per guinea pig, and unlimited hay. Last edited by guineapigluver1 : 01-03-08 at 01:25 pm. Reason: Forgot to say something

Re: Am I over feeding pellets? Or just the 1/4 cup scoop once a day. It is a small amount but they should be getting the majority of their nutrition from the hay and veggies.

Re: Am I over feeding pellets? My pigs ignore their pellets mostly, so I just fill up their bowl and let it be. They never finish it by the end of the week, so I supposed it depends on your piggies. If they are scarfing it down, you probably want to stick to measuring out and feeding twice a day. :-)

Re: Am I over feeding pellets? This might explain why other peoples guinea pigs seem to eat more hay then mine do. I think I will split twice a day. They won't be upset with me on the diet change?

Re: Am I over feeding pellets? They should do well really. Probably will make their little hearts content to have TWO mealtimes! :-) To a piggie that can be very exciting! ADD -- I just thought this might be helpful. You know that in the wild, there are no such things as "piggie pellet mix". But, there IS hay and veggies,grass/roots and such. This makes sense since pellets are the least important part of their diet. It DOES provide some balanced vitamin/mineral content, but thats really what it is for. So, just a titch in the morning and evening is the best way to go, unless you have my pigs who really turn their noses up at pellets... :-)

Re: Am I over feeding pellets? I found a bale of hay in the middle of the road a few months ago. DH grabbed it and threw it in the van. It does have some timothy in it. That seems to be the only grass I can identify. If it does not have flowers I have no clue. It stills smells good too. I try to leave the hay bin full although occasionally they do catch me off guard. Then of course they let me know all about it. They are not complaining to much about the few pellets. Now hubby did give them more last night since they wheeked at him. They do the same with my 15 year old son. I can not seem to get either one of them (humans) to believe they are not starving to death when they do this. Apparently it works
