Re: Stubborn Piggies dont like their veggies! Both mine love lettice, doesn't matter what kind. Cyrus really isn't a picky eater but Seraphim is! She usually eats Bell Peppers (either kind) Lettice, Celery (if I have it and put it in small pieces), Carrots, and that's about it. She has shown a liking to apples that I got from McDonald's (the little substitutes for french fries) but I am not sure what they add in it, so I rarely give her that stuff. If she wants an apple, I'll just go buy one! Also it depends on if you watch them, since you just got them. Cyrus refused to eat around me when I first got him, and Seraphim did until I tempted her with lettice. They also may not be used to veggies, depending on where you get them. Seraphim wasn't exposed to that many veggies, thus sort of became a picky eater.

Don't ever feed a guinea pig anything other than fresh vegetables that you have prepared and cleaned yourself. Never, ever feed them anything that is not on the nutrition chart (unless you post for more information in the diet and nutrition forum to find out if it is ok). Diet and Nutrition Chart McDonalds is definitely a very bad idea...no matter what so-called food it is. |

Re: Stubborn Piggies dont like their veggies! Just try leaving one baby carrot and one leaf of romain lettuce ( or another kind besides iceburg) in there cage, for about 2 - 3 hours, also tyr bell peppers. They will come around to it!

Re: Stubborn Piggies dont like their veggies! Mine love the romaine, carrots, and the peppers. But I also give them a little bit but I would just keep trying with different kinds. I'm sure they will come around.

Re: Stubborn Piggies dont like their veggies! Keep trying different kinds. My piggie won't touch tomatoes or bell peppers, except to toss them out of the way. But he loves broccoli and the leafy tops of celery. I used to feed him kale all the time, and I think he knew better than I did because he only ate it some of the time. If you haven't tried any fruits yet, try a couple and see if that convinces your piggie to try something new.

Re: Stubborn Piggies dont like their veggies! When I first rescued my girly girl, her previous (mis-informed) owner stated to me. "It doesn't like veggies! They just rot in it's cage!" Upon bringing her home she promptly devoured lettuce and carrots quite willingly, the green peppers she wouldn't touch. Rather than to STOP giving them to her entirely, I offered her much smaller pieces. This way if they weren't eaten it wasn't such a big waste. After about a month, she was eating the pepper as voraciously as all her other veggies. I would just give them time. They will eventually eat them. Maybe try offering small amounts more frequently to prevent too much waste. Also you will find they all have their favorites.

Re: Stubborn Piggies dont like their veggies! Have you tried hand feeding her the veggies?? My new little girl seems to forget how to eat veggies between feedings, but when I help her out, she picks it back up again. She LOVES her carrots and red leaf lettuce, and we're going to try several new veggies over the next couple days.

Re: Stubborn Piggies dont like their veggies! No doubt Mulder's favorite veggie is green peppers. Always what he goes to first. He also likes carrots and cucumbers. He doesn't like any of the "spices" for some reason. He really likes grapes so he gets that on occasion, oh and kiwi.

Re: Stubborn Piggies dont like their veggies! I think carrots and lettuces (not iceberg) are big hits with most piggies. Frisky likes all lettuces, endive, radicchio, carrots, tomato, cilantro, parsley. The rescue said Parcheesi likes carrots, lettuces and kale. I wanted to get him some kale but didn't want to buy a huge bunch at the grocery store, so I'm hoping our other grocery offers smaller bunches! I was hoping he'd like bell peppers and get Frisky used to the idea of eating them, but no. Now we have two piggies who ignore the bell pepper in their cage all day. I keep trying, but not every day. We just buy one for them once in a while and give it until we run out, or save them out a little piece if we are cooking with them. Last summer, Frisky went crazy for corn husks! For fruit, we have been giving kiwi. Frisky likes it but I'm not sure about 'Cheesi yet. We've only been giving a small piece though, because I've been concerned about the sugar content. How much can they have? Can they have the skin too?

Re: Stubborn Piggies dont like their veggies! Kyle loves kiwi, too! I usually give him a chunk when I'm cutting one up for me or my husband. He also likes strawberries and blueberries, but not as much as he likes apples and oranges. I usually give him a small piece of fruit every day, and mix it up depending on what looks good at the grocery store or farmer's market each week. He'd eat a pile of fruit every day if I let him! This week, I found fresh green beans, and he eats them like they're going out of style! He loves broccoli, too. Too bad I have to ration out all his favorite foods. Silly pig.
