Hay storage in the Winter

Is it ok to store my hay in a separate room off of my garage? The hay is not exposed to car fumes but it is in an room that is not heated. Is this ok in the winter? I live in Illinois so it gets pretty cold.

The hay is in a cardboard box, lifted off the floor about a foot high so it stays nice a dry. But, in the winter, it will get pretty cold in there. I would estimate that in the dead of winter, the room could be as cold as 40 degrees...It does have some insulation...but not much...
