Re: Oranges?

Again, please refer to the nutrition charts to see if it is on there before asking.

Re: Oranges?

The nutrition charts provide excellent information. They are very resourceful if you have any questions about what or what not to feed your pig(s) and how much.

But answering your question: oranges are good for pigs- they should be given an orange slice a few times a week, not every day as they could consume too much vitamin C. Guinea pigs need vitamin C in their diet so it's essential that they're available often.

Re: Oranges?

Also going to refer you to the nutrition charts.

Then adding: My boys love orange rind/peel! Even more-so than the fruit itself. I think the smell is a bit strong at first, so it makes it fun to watch them work their way up to eating it. Once they work up enough gumption to stand and eat it, it disappears quickly. But they only get it 2 or 3 times a week.

Thanks for the info. I gave them a little piece to each of them, the baby did not ate any. I think it will be better to wait since he is still little. He is a week old. Im I right? or can the baby eat oranges too?

Please refer to this diet/nutrition chart that Ly & Pigs provided in her post.

It's the proper diet for any age of cavy. Our newborn was eating everything her Mama ate the same day she was born.

If a pig doesn't eat something the first time it's offered, keep trying every so often. Sometimes it takes a while for them to try something new and decide they like it.

Not a few times per week, only once or twice per week as they are high in sugar and acidic. They also aren't very high in vitamin C. There are other veggies that are better than contain more C than oranges.
