Storing hay outside?

I live in an apartment so space is very limited. Would it be OK to store my hay outside on the patio? Thanks.

Re: Storing hay outside?

It depends what you would keep it in. I f the hay got damp it might start to go mouldy.

This is a really good page on storing hay, especially at the bottom. To be honest, the air outside in the UK is always damp, winter or summer, and it often rains. Hay needs to be kept as dry as possible but also needs to breathe. One of those big tool stores, like a mini shed on your patio would be the best option if you don't have a shed, but the store has to be wooden, not plastic. They are quite expensive. Is there any way you could keep it in a cardboard box indoors?

Re: Storing hay outside?

We live in a very tiny efficiency apartment. We get the 45 pound box of KM's hay. We just keep it a corner near the cages, it doesn't take up very much space at all.

When we ordered our first box, we worried about where in the world we would put it. But, it fits in the corner just fine.

I wouldn't put it outside. It probably wouldn't stay dry or clean enough since you need to store it open so air can circulate through it.
