Urm.. I didn't find this food on Ly's food charts but does anyone know if you can feed piggers escarole? Its a type of leaf/lettuce.

Re: Escarole?

Yes, it's fine, and mine get it quite often. I believe it's the same thing as endive. It's listed here on the Guinea Lynx chart: Guinea Lynx :: Vegetable Chart.

Re: Escarole?

Whenever someone says Escarole I immediatley think Escargots (snails). I went to a French Restaurant when I was in High-School. Everyone (bar 1) ate 1 snail. To me, as they were dipped in this garlic sauce, all they tasted like was garlic rubber . I felt sick afterwards but I think that was a mind thing..

Re: Escarole?

All lettuces, except iceburg, are safe and fine to feed.

Really? My vet said not to feed swiss chard and to feed romain as a treat (my pig was having white urine).

It's comprised of mostly water, has very little nutritional value and causes diarrhea in pigs.

Swiss chard and romaine shouldn't cause white urine. Did you feel the dried urine spots to see if they felt gritty which could indicate bladder sludge? Most smooth white urine spots are normal and are caused by the pigs expelling excess calcium their bodies don't need anymore. What else do you feed? Calcium spots (white urine) is normally caused by things high in calcium and oxalic acid.
