Question My piggy wants food in the morning and at night?

I have one 1yr old male who I feed in the morning and last night he was wheeking really loudly for food and then since I wouldnt give him any he started biting on his grids and since I was trying to sleep I gave in and threw a verry small amount of pellets in his bowl and then I went to sleep. This morning he wanted to be fed like he usually does so I got up and gave him his normal amount of pellets. Then probably 15-20min after that he wanted more food so I got his veggies. When should I feed him? Should I give him pellets in the morning or at night? Should I give him more veggies at the opposite time that he gets his pellets? Also he has an unlimited supply of hay in his cage so why is he begging for other food all of the sudden. He has never done this befor.

Re: My piggy wants food in the morning and at night?

I give my 2 pigs veggies in the morning and at night, 2-4 cups at each feeding. I replenish the hay every night and any other time it needs it. I give them their portion of pellets at night.

It doesn't matter when you give the pellets, just be sure to not give more than 1/8 to 1/4 cup per day. If you want to give him pellets 2 times a day, give him 1/8 at a time. Piggies are foragers so giving him small amounts of veggies multiple times a day is good.

Yeah, feeding twice is a day is about right. My guinea pig will wake everyone up around 8am for her carrot and then remind everyone around 5pm for her lettuce.

I leave pellets and hay for her all day long though.

My piggy’s week like crazy whenever someone rustles a bag or turns on the faucet sometimes running around like crazy. I usually feed them in the morning and a little while after I get home from work. Even after being fed they will still week when they hear a bag or the faucet but after they realize fresh veggies are not on their way they will go eat some hay or pellets or just go about what they were doing before.

Re: My piggy wants food in the morning and at night?

He has started chewing on his bars and wheeking between about 2am and 5am for the past few nights. Is he hungry or is he lonely. I'm probably getting him a friend soon so if thats the problem then I can try to go this weekend. Why do you think he is doing this all of the sudden?

I feed mine twice a day, along with pellets and unlimited hay. It sounds like he's lonely too. I'd get him a companion as soon as you can!

If he's a lone pig, then yes, he most likely is bored, depressed and wants company. Just remember though if you get him a friend to do the 3 week quarantine in a separate cage in a separate room.

Re: My piggy wants food in the morning and at night?

He woke my mom up last night so mabey she will finaly let me adopt this weekend. Also I am planning on a 3 week quarentine. The sooner I adopt the sooner my pig will stop chewing on his bars. Also I tried to give him a little more atention before bed I think it helped a little but I know its no match for having a buddy in his cage the entire night and while I'm at school.
