Re: Piggy Food?

And adding to Fluffy_Guinea its way cheeper if you buy online and in bulk.

For hay I would recommend going through Kleenmama's. Everytime I buy their hay its fresh and soft and green!

Cool Re: Piggy Food?

I feed my guiena pigs Jack Rabit (sp?) guiena pig pellets, and lucerne hay. I bought these from the local produce store.

Re: Piggy Food?

Lucerne is alfalfa hay and isn't recommended to be fed to guinea pigs over 6 months of age.

All guinea pigs need grass hay at all times. Lucerne is not a grass hay.

I'm not familiar with that brand of pellets but you need a high quality plain pellet Guinea Lynx :: Diet

Re: Piggy Food?

I feed kleenmama's hay. You pay more up front than buying a small bag from the pet store but 1 - it is MUCH better quality hay, and 2 - youre actually saving money in the long run

Re: Piggy Food?

I feed Kleenmama;s hay too, it is awesome. It is much much better quality than petstore or walmart hay and it so much cheaper. When I was thinking about getting it, I was calculating how much it'd cost and I calculated how much I'd save, and I saved $0.85 per pound of hay(compare to the walmart hay I got before), and I bought 25ibs of hay so I saved $21.25 including shipping, handle and prossecessing, and got a higher quality hay, which the piggys like way way better.

Re: Piggy Food?

I was lucky to find that my local Vet sells Oxbow Hay products. Basically about 10% mark-up. But there is no shipping, making it very cheap to get the best products.

Bulk is the way to go, but you don't want to buy too much so the nutritients in the products expire.

Re: Piggy Food?

Yeah but as far as nutrients expiring - the stuff you buy in the stores - even oxbow - is not very good because it's been sitting there for who knows how long really.

Re: Piggy Food?

I purchased a new 5lbs bag of Oxbow Cavy Cuisine and it had a expiration date of Sept. 2008. I assume that it would be cut in half if it was an opened package.

One 5lbs bag lasts just my one guinea pig about 3 to 4 months.
