What should I do? My guinea pig hasn't been eating or drinking much for about 3 days. It's odd. she's 4 years old. I'm taking her to the vet soon....(in about 2 days) and I was wondering if there was anything I could do to help in the mean time. there hasn't been physical signs (other than her slight loss of weight obvious because she hasn't been eating)but she's been acting really weird. she's not very active or playful and is always just sitting there. I'm trying to feed her, her pellets and her favourite veggies but nothing so far. she moves around but that's only when she's out of her cage. Anyway I was wondering if there was anything I could do to find out what is wrong with her and how to feed her. -edit- she has days like this every once in a while where she just sits there kinda (almost as if she's lazy) but this time it seems as if it was going on for too long. Also when I pet her or anything she purrs and everything it's just her lack of activity and appetite.

Re: What should I do? You need to get your guinea pig to the vet ASAP - about two days away is too long as guinea pigs hide any signs of illness (so as to avoid being picked on/predated in their non-domesticated setting) until they are too ill to use energy to hide their illness anymore, and deteriorate quickly. An emergency appointment is the first thing you need to get, if that is still a few hours away, you need to get your girl's digestive system flowing again by syringe feeding her a mash made from your pellets mixed with water. It is imperative that things don't shut down any further. This link will help if you are stuck. Once you have got her to take some food, take a look at this next link. Guinea Lynx is the best place there is to find medical information about your piggy. You could also cut and paste what you've written here onto their medical forum (I think you'll have to register first) as they are really geared up there for this kind of situation. All the best with your girl, let us know how you get on.

Re: What should I do? Lack of activity can indicate lethargy. Lack of eating can be dangerous as their intestinal systems start to shut down after about 12 hours or so without food. If she's hardly eating or not eating, you need to start handfeeding a pellet mash and get to a vet asap. An emergency vet visit would be in order.
