| Re: Timothy hay? Ha ha ha! Well I was just wondering! I saw on this site that they were two very different things, does grass hay include readi grass? |

| Re: Timothy hay? Both hay and Readigrass all starts off as grass, but hay is dried much more slowly (in ideal conditions it's dried in the sun). Readi Grass and other similiar products (Supa Forage Excel etc.) are dried more quickly using an artificial drying process (I know that Just Grass is dried at high temperature and I would guess that the others are too). This doesn't add anything artificial to the products but the difference in drying techniques does mean that these products have higher levels of protein than hay. The other difference is that they have a much shorter chop than hay (so they are no good for piggies who like to hide in the middle of their food and eat it from the inside out). If I understand correctly, these types of products are good to add as variety but don't replace hay. |
