Question Best pellets in the UK?

I see many different good brands of pellets to buy in the US but i am wondering what are the best brands of pellets to buy in the UK?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Re: Best pellets in the UK?

The one thats most widely available is Burgess Supa Guinea Excel. I was told on here that its a good brand but Oxbow Cavy Cuisine is slightly better. Supreme Science Selective is also good but again not as good as Oxbow. I'm currently feeding Science Selective and Supa Guinea but most of my pigs opt for the Science Selective. You can buy Supa Guinea Excel from most good pet supplies stores and at the vets. All these foods are available to order from The Hay Experts. As far as I'm aware these are the only 3 brands available in the UK that are any good.

Re: Best pellets in the UK?

Supa excel guinea pig - comes in an orange bag - and probably your best option.

Science Selective Guinea pig - not quite as good as Supa but not as bad as Gerty etc

Pets at Home nuggets - Not an option if you are against these large pet
stores but they are identical to the Supa and cheaper.

Oxbow is available online - look in the UK section of the forum, that'll have a lot of sites to buy it from or your vet may order it in for you.

The UK food options thread on the guinealynx forums has a more detailed analysis.

Re: Best pellets in the UK?

I feed Cavy Cuisine that I buy online from The Hay Experts - Natural Products for Rabbits and other Small Animals - The Hay Experts along with my oxbow hays

It is definitely the best food available in the UK.

Re: Best pellets in the UK?

I just bought the 1.1kg bag of Oxbow from there. Its so green and my pigs love it! But so expensive compared to their usual £2.50 bale. I doubt this bag will last more than a week or two.

Re: Best pellets in the UK?

Regarding expenses, I buy two 4kg boxes of Oxbow hay and two 4.5kg bags of Cavy Cuisine every two months to see my five girlies right which costs £80.

So it works out at £10 per week for five piggies, £2 a week each

Re: Best pellets in the UK?

Thalestral I have some questions about hay but I'll take this over to the hay thread. Sorry for taking this thread off topic.
