I'd like to try KM's Bluegrass for my pigs, but my Mom is very allergic to grass hay. Is Bluegrass something that is likely to cause a reaction? She has no reaction to Timothy or Alfalfa hays.

Re: Hay allergies and Bluegrass If she has no reaction to Timothy, then she isn't allergic to grass hays. Timothy is definitely a grass hay. Alfalfa is a legume hay. For people who are allergic to Timothy, Bluegrass often is a bit easier on their system and doesn't cause as severe of reactions.

Re: Hay allergies and Bluegrass Timothy is a grass hay. Bluegrass is usually easiest on the allergies.

Re: Hay allergies and Bluegrass I have allergies to hay and I use bluegrass with minimal problems. Orchard grass is very similar to bluegrass and is also easier on the allergies. If your mom isn't allergic to timothy hay than she shouldn't be allergic to the bluegrass.

Re: Hay allergies and Bluegrass Oops, I guess I meant Orchard grass instead of grass hay. We got them Orchard grass once and she had a severe reaction. Her asthma got really bad, even though she's on asthma medicine, and she basically had a bad cold until we got the Orchard grass out of the house. So if she's allergic to Orchard grass, she's probably allergic to Bluegrass?

Re: Hay allergies and Bluegrass Possibly. If she can be around Timothy without incident, I would just stick with the Timothy hay. KM's Timothy is also excellent.

Re: Hay allergies and Bluegrass Okay, thanks. The only reason I wanted to switch was because in the batches of KM's timothy hay that I've been getting there's been lots of soft brown strands that the pigs won't eat. Hopefully it'll be different this time since it's a new year of hay.
