what kind of strange stuff has your piggie ever eaten?

Just wondering what some strange things are that your piggies have eaten. One of my girls ate a few bites of paper towel tonight by mistake. They've also eaten holes in the towel I put in their cage as a tent (obviously I took that out as soon as I discovered it). Almost 2 weeks ago I saw one of them trying to eat some of the black string that is the seam/border on their fleece blanket. She had somehow pulled it out and it was in her mouth. I took the string out of her mouth and fixed the seam so it won't happen again. Hopefully she didn't swallow any -- I haven't seen it come out in her poopies so maybe she didn't eat it or maybe it got digested?

Anyway, what bad things have your troublemaker piggies ingested?

Re: what kind of strange stuff has your piggie ever eaten?

As far as I know, my piggies have never eaten anything too strange, mostly because I don't let them. They did eat a grassy hutch that I bought for them. Fortunately it was supposed to be edible. It didn't last very long.

My other pets eat strange things though. My dog loves to eat guinea pig poop. Another dog I used to have ate a whole bar of soap once, and he also ate a pin cushion. My cat likes to eat the piggy hay and the crickets I have for my geckos. My other cat will eat anything he finds on the floor. And my other other cat will eat any type of small rodent he can catch, and he eats the whole thing except the head.

I don't think that's what you were looking for, but there you go.

A cactus. They got behind the area I'd fenced off where the houseplants were growing and as I was herding them all back out someone ate my little red cactus that I started from seed. I think it was Snickers. Noone showed any signs of it though. They went back to eating hay like normal.

Re: what kind of strange stuff has your piggie ever eaten?

I have had a coupe of my pigs eat dog food that my nephew fed them. April and Summer like to tag-team Pumpkin, pull her hair out and eat it. I don't know who or how many of my pigs but they chewed holes in one of my fleece blankets once. If I don't remove the paper plates after feeding they will eat those too. Miss piggy likes to gnaw on the concrete sabs that I have under the water bottles. That's about all I can think of right now.

Well, he didn't eat it, but one of ours bit part of my fingernail off. I did get it back, though. I need to explain to them that I do the claw clipping around here, not them.

Re: what kind of strange stuff has your piggie ever eaten?

Well my boars: Sammy, Chester, Mo, and Cupid like to eat dirt, but that's about it.

Our ferret that got outside and was found three houses down in the morning that died from hypothermia liked to tear the buttons off electronic games.

Our dogs like to eat cat, rabbit, cavy, and horse poop. Oh ya, and carrots.

The cats like to eat grass. The 14 year old cat is an amazing hunter and eats every part of a bird except for the head and all parts of a rodent except for the tail.

The puppy likes to eat underwear.

And that's all that I can think of for now.

Re: what kind of strange stuff has your piggie ever eaten?

The list of things my new puppy has eaten would cover 2 pages. She's a little vacuum and just walks around inside and out covering the ground with her nose and eating anything that can be picked up. You have no idea how many screws, rubberbands, and random plastic bits I've pulled out of her mouth. I left her with my mom today while I was gone and they went for a walk. My mom isn't the best at watching her and I come back to find her streaked in black tarry stuff that I can't identify. She's thrown up 3 times so far and my mom has no idea what it was. So now I have to spend the rest of the day sitting around watching puppy to make sure she doesn't have to go to the vet to have whatever it is removed from her stomach.

Aw, she sounds like a little trouble-maker! What kind of dog is she? I used to have a golden retriever and he would eat ANYTHING he could fit in his mouth. Scooping the yard was always very interesting, lots of new "treasures" would appear. My shepherd mix never chews on anything.

Re: what kind of strange stuff has your piggie ever eaten?

Akita somewhere around 6months old and already over 60lbs. She doesn't sit still for 2 seconds which is about the length of her attention span for anything except raw meat or moving critters. That's the reason my cages no longer sit on the floor and the small pet only room with a locking door was setup.

Re: what kind of strange stuff has your piggie ever eaten?

I can relate to that. My piggies have their own room mostly because of my dog and three cats. One of the cats is extremely vicious and kills small rodents for fun, so I have to keep him away from the piggies at all times!

Re: what kind of strange stuff has your piggie ever eaten?

My dogs like to eat guinea pig poop, and one of them caught a squirrel.
My bunnies eat the carpet, couch and anything else they can find to chew on. My pigs don't really eat anything strange. They may try the carpet during free time and they have probably tasted the base boards, but other than that their really isn't anything else strange for them to try.

Re: what kind of strange stuff has your piggie ever eaten?

My shihtzu used to like to eat cow poop. Gave a whole new literal meaning to "*poop* eater". Cant use the real word there....

My pigs havent eaten anything weird I can think of, other than newspaper.

Re: what kind of strange stuff has your piggie ever eaten?

I can't think of anything odd that my pigs have eaten.

Th dog is an entirely different story. We're very pleased that he matured out of his puppy phase a few years ago. During that time he ate: the coaxial cable out of the living room wall, part of the living room wall (really liked HBO apparently), three window screens (!), a sprinkler head, and the metal pistol grip hose sprayer attachment. He liked metal. The vet was very kind and understanding every time we brought him in for X rays to see if he had actually ingested the stuff and if there was an impaction.

Re: what kind of strange stuff has your piggie ever eaten?

I think that my piggy would eat absolutly anything, except things that have Vitamin C in them! He even chews on the metal grids sometimes. I have to be on my toes constantly with him! But at least I don't have to worry to much about his teeth growing to long!

My dog on the other hand is rather interesting. She is almost 16 and has become very picky about people food (not that she gets it very often). Some things she'll ignore, some she'll sniff, some she'll eventually eat and some she scarfs down before it hits the floor. And while she has to be lured with treats to eat her own food (a special food for her stomach) she not only loves my piggy's food, but enjoys his treats too! One time while I was cleaning out his cage (he was in his carrier and protected from the dog) I came into my room to find my dog eating his pellets right out of his dish!! And if she is up when I am getting my piggy's breakfast well, she has to have a carrot too - something that started with my rabbit a long time ago! Thankfully she is not too interested in his poos. I can't say the same for my brother's dog though. She eats everything including bird poo off the sidewalk! Now that can't be healthy!!

I'm glad that my dog likes eating piggy poops! She cleans up the mess for me after the piggies have floor time.

Re: what kind of strange stuff has your piggie ever eaten?

Ha ha , i thought my animals were wierd. I have a Beagle so there is no limit to what he will eat. But he does draw tha line on guinea pig and rabbit poop? He will eat a poopy baby diaper but he has his standards and will not eat bunny poo, i dont know. Over the years my dogs have eaten a light bulb(the whole light bulb and the base), that one cost me a couple hundred dollars in vet bills but thankfully didnt result in surgery. My one dog likes to eat soda or juice bottles that are left on the floor, and it doesnt matter if it is full at the time. Gosh i could go on forever, anything in the trash (also another couple hundred dollars in vet bills), poopy diapers, i have a dog that prefers diaper with no poo or pee in it. Clothes and gum have also been eatin in my house.

i am also adding i have lost quite a few raw roasts that never made it to the oven becuase the dogs have gotten to them. They paid for it the next few days when they had horrible diarehha, you would have thought they would have learned but no.

Re: what kind of strange stuff has your piggie ever eaten?

Luckily we discovered what the black tarry stuff was. Unfortunately we have to go into the vet to check for bacteria and parasites because it's raccoon poop and she's still throwing up occasionally. Stick with guinea pigs. They get into alot less stuff than puppies.
