When to feed Hey everyone, New here. Adopted a 1 1/2 yr old pig a few days ago. He seems to be pretty happy and eating well. I have a few questions about feeding though: In the AM before work, I pour him fresh pellets and water. About the hay... Should I throw out any leftover hay left in the hay bin and add fresh hay, or should I just keep piling it on? About the pellets... Should I give them to him once a day and let him eat it, or do I throw those out at night and give him new ones? About the veggies... Where do these come in? I havenet given him any yet, but what do I do with them? Place them in with the pellets? Should I only give him veggies at night? What are your strategies? Thanks in advance for the ingo... -Ivan

Re: When to feed Eventually... I added that addition to his cage last night. If you guys would have seen the conditions this poor animal was living in you probably would have puked. I have a strong stomach, and I almost blew chunks. His previous owner had some good ideas...but his execution of the ideas was disatrous. When good ideas go bad: The genius thought it would be a good idea to line the floor with newspaper for easy cleanup. Not bad, I guess, except that underneath the paper there was probably 1 years worth of crap, dried pee, and petrified bedding. It was nasty. He also included a pan with ferrit litter which the piggie actually used. Great...except that to save space, he placed his hide box on top of the pan, so the animal was sleeping in its own waste. Had to give the poor thing a bath and cut its nails, which were curling under its feet, and spent 2 hours scraping the dried pee off the cage bottom. At least he's clean and happy now.

Re: When to feed They tend to do that anyway. But if he uses a litter tray, all the more reason to make his cage bigger and give him room for it. ***comment removed*** Last edited by TX_2_Pigs : 07-26-07 at 12:12 pm. Reason: to remove a comment that I decided could be interpreted as not quite so nice.
