Hay smelling to sweet?

My mother walked in my room today and said something smelled really, really sweet. We assumed and was pretty sure it was my hay. I give them Oxbow. My question is do any of you guys that use Oxbow find it to be sweet smelling. I really don't smell it that much and it doesn't smell that bad to me but I was wondering if it was just the brand that made it smell sweet.

Re: Hay smelling to sweet?

Is it the timothy hay? I use Oxbow's timothy hay, and I've noticed a huge difference from the Kaytee hay I used to use. I wouldn't describe the difference in smell as sweeter, but it is stronger, ...maybe fresher? Unfortunately my mother and brother can't stand the smell because they are allergic to the hay, but I kind of like it!

Ya its Timothy. I use to use Kaytee and I didn't like it at all. I think like you said probably because it is fresher. It does have a stronger smell to it and my mother I guess maybe she's not used to it. I like it, to me it doesn't bother me but that is probably it. tHE

Yes it is Timothy. That is probably it though the fact that it is a lot fresher. That would make much more sense. I don't mind the smell at all she just...found it different maybe.

You should smell Kleenmama's bluegrass/orchard hay. It is heavenly sweet smelling!

Re: Hay smelling to sweet?

I just got a free bale from one of the people my dad knows, it's just field grass. I guess you could call it orchard hay... But it is very fresh and it smells sooooo sweet! I was kind of worried when I saw the title, I thought there might be a problem with sweet smelling hay.

Re: Hay smelling to sweet?

Well I cleaned out the cages and the hay is in but it doesn't smell as bad anymore. I think with the mix of the needing to change the cage and the hay was to much. Smells fine now though.
