Help with Vitamin C

I just bought a bottle of Vitamin C tablets for my 2month old guinea pig. She won't eat any vegetables and I wanted to make sure she is getting enough vitamin C. Anyway, I got the tablets in the vitamin aisle and there is 250 mg of vitamin C per tablet. There are no added sugars and the ingredients are:

Ascorbic Acid, Dicalcium Phosphate, Microcrystalline Cellulose, Crospovidone, Stearic Acid, Magnesium Stearate, Silicon Dioxide

I'm not sure if I should give her a whole or a quarter of a tablet daily. She is very small and dainty so I wouldn't want to give her too much. Any help or advice is appreciated. Also, what happens if she won't eat it? They don't smell bad but I'm not sure what I should do if I can't get her to eat it.

Re: Help with Vitamin C

You certainly don't want to give her a whole tablet per day, that's way too much. They need about 10-30 mg per kg of weight per day. She will need no more than problably 1/6-1/5 of a tablet a day. You will have to figure out how to cut them down. Once you cut them down to the appropriate size, you can try to get her to eat it.

My suggestion is to keep trying to get her to eat veggies. Start with a couple simple things like romaine lettuce and cilantro. Put it in the cage and leave it for a few hours.

Re: Help with Vitamin C

I crush my 250mg tablets with a spoon on a flat plate then divide them into 5. I take the amount I need and sprinkle it on their pellets. I put the rest in a baggy for the next 4 days.

Re: Help with Vitamin C

Thanks, I'll try that right now. I put a peice of lettuce and a carrot in there the other day. It was in there all after noon and she didn't touch it. I'm going to cut the Vitamin C tablet and see if I can get her to eat it.

Re: Help with Vitamin C

The drops can make the water taste funny and some pigs won't drink it.

Gpigownerx2- please read this link and maybe you will understand why putting drops in the water is not good for cavies. http://www.guineapigcages.com/forum/...ang-water.html
