| I was looking around online at different homemade pig stuff. Anyway, I stumbled across these recipes for piggy treats. At first glance they looked ok but I think they might not be very healthy. The first one looks ok but the second looks like it might not be good. I was kinda looking for a second opinion before I even consider trying them. Here they are: Guinea Pig Salad sliced carrots (1 per guinea) sliced parsley sliced broccoli sliced lettuce Mix them together, put the ingredients in a bowl, and it is ready to serve to your guinea pigs. Guinea Pig Dinner 1 1/2 tablespoon shredded carrot 1 tablespoon toasted grain oats 1/2 tablespoon chopped broccoli.3 medium red grapes 1 tablespoons unsalted sunflower seeds 1 tablespoon unsalted peanuts In one bowl, combine the shredded carrot, broccoli tree (prepared as instructed above), and 3 medium red grapes (also prepared as instructed above). Mix together well. While continuing to stir this mixture , gradually add the rest of the recipe. Store in a refrigerator for 10 minutes, covered. Stir again and serve in a bowl of some sort. Also here is the site in case anyone cares: FREE RODENT FOOD RECIPES - HomeMade Animal Treats - AnimalSnackables.com Here is another one: Homemade Cavy Biscuits ... a modification of Brenda Plaxton's: Bunny Biscuits. (Please click on the link to view Brenda's bunny biscuits recipe.) Calypso's version uses the following ingredients: 1/2 banana, mashed 1 small carrot, pureed 1 tablespoon honey 1/4 cup guinea pig pellets, finely ground 1/4 cup rolled oats, finely ground (A soda-bottle cap may be used as a biscuit cutter.) | Re: Recipes? The guinea pig salad is ok but it's not good for everyday use because of parsley and broccoli. The guinea pig dinner would be a no. It contains grains which cavies cannot digest well and fattening nuts that they could choke on. The cavy biscuits would be a no as well. Banana is not a good fruit to feed due to the bloat factor. Cavies don't need honey in their diet and it also uses grains (oats). The best treats you can give are fresh veggies and the occasional fruit. |

| Re: Recipes? Thats what I figured. It sad how so few people on the web are ill informed about guinea pig diet and they are spreading it. Thanks for the conformation of what I already assumed!! |

| Re: Recipes? I made an interesting mash for mine over christmas. I used some leftover critical care and pellets(just pellets would work) and soaked them in fruit juice until they turned into a paste. For juice I used blueberry Naked Juice but any plain juice(no sugar, corn syrup, etc...) would work. Then heated it up while chopping carrots, apples, and cilantro and mixed it all together. I suppose it might not look as appetizing to us but they all loved it. aqh88/guinea pigs/2007 - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting You can make any mix of fruits and veggies into a salad for them but avoid things like nuts, seeds, grains, and anything with sugar added. |

| Re: Recipes? That looks like something they would think to be yummy. I see it was a hit with your piggies. |
