water

When I first got my piggies,I read a million how-to books about them, and I remember reading to always give them water at room temperature-cause their little body can't handle cool water,so that's what I've always done-never really thought about it.But on these really hot days,I started thinking;is that true?

Re: water

Well if they can handle an icecube I imagine they can handle cold water. It usually warms up to room temperature in the bottle quicker then they drink from it so I've always just used the cold water tap and never had a problem.

Re: water

In the warm weather I use cold water, my girls really appreciate drinking the cold water on a hot day. It helps to cool them down a bit.

Re: water

Complete myth. Even for horses. The worst it would do is cause a mild stomach cramp if they(or even humans) drank a ton of water at once. Otherwise they will be fine. No worse than when you eat a bunch of icecream at once or drink a really cold pop after being outside. Slight discomfort for a minute is all that might happen.

Yikes. Whatever book you read that in, make sure to throw it away!

Re: water

I have always given them just regular cold water. Doesn't seem to bother them really that much.

Re: water

yes, that is why the water bottle needs to be changed daily.

Re: water

That's probably why when sometimes I take the top off, there's an odor sometimes, huh?I do change it everyday-sometimes even 2x a day and scrub it inside with a baby bottle brush.(And each piggie has his own bottle.)Should I get another set of bottles,so one set can dry out before I use them again?
