Corn on the Cob

I bought some corn on the cob today and I put aside a couple of ears for my piggies. How much of it can they have? I know it should only be fed a couple times a week. I was thinking about putting the whole ear in for all my girls to eat off of, would that be alright to do?

I think I finally got my kids trained. When my son Alex and I were husking the corn he said to me, "Can the piggies eat the husks and can we save it for them". I told him yes and he proceeded to put the husk and silk in a bag and he put it in the refridgerator. What a good boy he is.

Re: Corn on the Cob

Half an ear is good for 2 pigs. I only feed one ear to my 5 sows. I also wouldn't feed corn more than once per week. If I am correct you have a herd of 7? You can feed one ear once per week. They can have the husk and silks daily.

Re: Corn on the Cob

Correct, I have 7 girls. Thats why I thought I would just put the whole ear in for them. I was going to use the husks and silk to put in the meal plates, to give them a bit more variety. Thanks for the help....again LY.

Re: Corn on the Cob

I just started giving my guys the husks and silk and they are absolutely in love with it! Might be their favorite yet.

Mine love the husks and silks too. I love to watch them suck up the silks like spaghetti. I also love the fact that I can raid the husk bin at the store for free!

Re: Corn on the Cob

My girls really enjoyed the husks and silk last night. Miss piggy was rolling in the silk, it was so funny to watch her do that. The next time I go food shopping I will ask the produce manager if I can raid the husk bin. I am also going to ask if I can have the watermelon rinds that they throw out. Those would make nice little freezy treats on a hot afternoon.

Re: Corn on the Cob

Thanks for this info! I have been feeding my family corn on the cob without thinking of either the silks or husks to the piggie. No wonder he was wheeking at me! Sometimes I amaze myself being ignorant...
