| Recipe. Well, I wasn't sure where to post this but I have a little recipe I give to Caramel every day that is very simple. First I chop up an apple and put it into a container with a lid, then I take a handfull of iceburg lettuce, following that I skin a carrot and then I put the lid on and shake it up and, wah-lah! Piggy salad. Now you just serve it to your piggy. Caramel loves it, he even will demand it with 'wheeek's if I forget. |

| Re: Recipe. You might think about switching the iceburg lettuce with romaine, since iceberg has very little nutrients. Also, giving piggies apples every day is a little bit too much sugar. Have you checked out the sticky threads in this forum? There is lots of invaluable information there concerning what veggies to feed and how often. Other than that, I think the piggy salad idea sounds cute if you just change the recipe a little! |

| Re: Recipe. I would switch the iceberg lettuce to a leaf lettuce like romaine or red leaf or green leaf. It is healthier for your piggy. |

| Re: Recipe. Thank you for the tip. I don't always use the apples in it though. But I will deffiantly switch the lettuce then. I was thinking, are radishes good for a piggy? |

| Re: Recipe. Here's a link to the everything you need to know about veggies: http://www.guineapigcages.com/forum/...arts-info.html. It says radishes should be used sparingly because they are high in oxalic acid. |

| Re: Recipe. Iceburg lettuce contains very little nutritional value and is very high in water. Not a good thing for piggies. It can also cause diarrhea. Apples are high in sugars and are acidic. Best fed once or twice per week and only about 1/8 to 1/4 of a small apple per pig. I also hope you aren't giving a whole carrot per day. They are high in Vitamin A which can lead to liver/kidney damage if fed too much over a long period of time. A baby carrot is the limit per day. I really hope you can get some great info off of my charts and that you will add more variety into your piggies diet. There are also some sample menus at the top of this forum that you can look at. Bell pepper and cilantro are both great daily veggies. Bell pepper is an excellent source of Vitamin C. |

Iceburg lettuce is best left out of the diet. Their is no real nutrients in Iceburg and contains alot of water. You are best to stick with lettuces like Romain, geen/red leaf, Escarole/endive, butterhead/Boston lettuces and Cilantro. Herbs like parsley, Dill and Basil are good to add in also. |

Iceburg isn't ok to feed at all. Here are some photos. The first is iceburg, the second is romaine and the third is green leaf lettuce. |
