Other small animal foods

Hi. I am new to the forum AND new to cavy's worlds!! (We have 2 guineas and 2 hamsters.)

I have a bag of Chinchilla food that a friend gave me. Can I feed that to my piggers?

No. Guinea pigs need guinea pig food i.e. high quality plain pellets (no seeds or nuts) fortified with vit C, unlimited grass hay and daily veggies.

Re: Other small animal foods

Ok, thanks. I have been feeding them guinea food from PetSmart, Timothy hay and fresh Kale. They seem to really like the Kale!

What type of guinea pig food? Their Nutriphase line is not very good. Oxbow is the best kind you can get locally, or Kleenmama online.

Kale is very high in calcium and should be fed sparingly unless your guinea pigs are under 6 months.

Re: Other small animal foods

They are both under 6 months and I only give one leaf of Kale (for both to share) per day.

The food I got from the store is Nutriphase! And you know, they won't eat the pellets. They only eat the other bits.

Re: Other small animal foods

Please read this thread http://www.guineapigcages.com/forum/...arts-info.html it will tell you all about good foods and appropriate veggies and amounts to feed. Right now you are feeding a poor pellet and not nearly enough veggies. Make certain they also have an unlimited supply of hay.
