I keep reading that people are feeding peppers (all kinds) to thier pigs. I used wikipedia.org to establish what to feed my piggies. They don't mention peppers anywhere. Are they safe??? I don't want to feed them some and be responsible for an illness or death.![]()

Re: Peppers? R they dangerous? You don't need wikipedia to figure out what to feed your pigs. See this thread- http://www.guineapigcages.com/forum/...arts-info.html and www.guinealynx.info/diet for all your pigs dietary needs. Bell peppers are very safe and are good daily. They are an excellent source of Vitamin C.

Re: Peppers? Are they dangerous? Thankyou. I will start adding them into Artemis's diet. Do you know if the pigs notice anything different about the different colouds. (I need to do a Science Research Project and the topic I chose was "Do Guinea Pigs favour green foods over other colours). I need some food that tastes similar and has a similar dietary intake but different colours. I was hoping to use peppers. Woulde the be similar?

Re: Peppers? Are they dangerous? that's a good idea for a project. use Red, orange, yellow and green peppers. They are pretty similar, although there are some differences in nutritional content (the non-green are even higher in Vit C) Just keep on offering them AFTER the project is done - they are a daily staple for my piggies and they love them now, although in the beginning when I first started offering them it took several days before they would even touch them.

Re: Peppers? Are they dangerous? The dietary intake of different colored bell peppers are somewhat similar but the sugar increases with each color going from green to red. If you look at the charts you will see what I mean.

Re: Peppers? Are they dangerous? Yeah I saw the charts and saw that the peppers were pretty similar. That's why I started this thread. The problem with getting the peppers is I live in Australia and am not sure were to buy them. (My parents have to drive me there). Now all I have to do is find Artemis and get her to take her carrot medicine.

Re: Peppers? Are they dangerous? I do know pigs are deffinately partial to color. The pink house is the one all pigs love here, green being the second, and white last. They kick each other out and shuffle pig houses. I would love to know your result on food.

Re: Peppers? Are they dangerous? I will have my results in about 2 months (when the project is due). By the way I am going offline. I won't be back on for about 5 days. See you all next time. Last edited by Sticky Mann : 06-03-07 at 10:57 pm. Reason: Forgot to add in something.

Re: Peppers? Are they dangerous? When my piggies were still quite new to me, they didn't like peppers atall. I tried and tried, but was getting really frustrated. After a week without pepper, I tried them with a chunk or two of yellow pepper (ehich I hadn't previously tried). They scoffed the lot in no time! I put it down to the fact that their then favorite food was the yellow skin of honeydew melon! I have since heard varying reports on whether or not piggies see in colour - which would certainly be interesting with regards to your test!

Re: Peppers? Are they dangerous? I got very lucky with my youngest piggie Dexter. I introduced him to peppers when he was 6 weeks old, and it only took a week for him to get used to them. His favourite veggie now is peppers of any colour - he always eats that before everything else. He won't touch courgette though. One of my other 4 pigs eat courgette, but I still don't know who - they won't eat it when I'm watching! The others only really eat green peppers - they merely nibble at the other colours. Definitely an acquired taste, peppers.

Re: Peppers? Are they dangerous? When I try to give Arty her carrots she always runs inbetween her 2 compartments in her cage (bedroom and play area). It is quite funny but soooooooo annoying.

Re: Peppers? Are they dangerous? Don't feel your guinea pig has to eat carrots. In fact almost the opposite, carrots are pretty bad for them. Very high in calcium and can lead to bladder stones.
