I'm a little confused because I've heard it was 6 months old ... which one is correct?
Believe it or not but both are correct. It's up to you whether you want to change over at 6 months or 1 year as alfalfa pellets can be fed until a year of age.

Re: Pellets!?How much,which type!??

That applies to pellets. Alfalfa hay should only be fed until they are 6 months but they also need grass hay from the day they are born. Alfalfa is basically a supplemental hay in addition to the grass hay for the extra calcium for growing piggies.

The reason I say change alfalfa pellets to timothy based at 6 months is because if you feed a nice varied diet of veggies, they will get the calcium they need from the veggies and since the pellets are the least of any part of a pigs diet, they don't really matter that much anyway.

Here we can get Mazuri in a 25lb bag for $16 dollars. Mazuri is what I mix with Oxbow Cavy Cuisine and they eat it all. Your local stock shops should have better quality pellets. You can also check your garden centers as they sometimes get oxbow in.
