Question white sand

I was just wondering what anyone thinks. I cleaned out our cage yest. & today. There was like a white sand on the corolast. I changed the bedding recently to hunt club to try it out-for my allergies. Is it the bedding? Could this stuff be from my new boys urine? What do you think?

I feed them Romaine & red leaf lettuce every meal, about 1/4 pepper per meal, 1 small carrot per pig per day, occasionally broccolli, celery, & cucumber slices. They have kaytee hay all the time & eat Oxbow pellets for adult pigs.

Thanks for insight.

Re: white sand

Sounds like they possibly are getting too much calcium, and this is dried pee, with high calcium content.

We had this problem, and found it to be a hard water problem, and now filter the water for them.

It could be the bedding or the liner though? What bedding do you use and what do you line the cage with?

Re: white sand

You know, I never even thought about tap water having CA in it, but it makes sence. I know some bottled water has it.

Re: white sand

I've had Nacho for 4 months & no problems. We got Sanja somewhat recently, I think he could be the culprit as we still have the same areas where Nacho pottys & they look normal. He is not as picky on where he pottys.

I use Hunt Club bedding(recycled cardboard). It is directly on the coroplast. It is a new arrangement with the bedding. They always have drank the tap water. I guess I can check into the CA content in the water. If I call the water treatment plant, what is too high CA in water for pigs?
