Sweet Meadow Farm pellets

Has anyone tried the pellets from Sweet Meadow Farm? Did they go over well or not?

Re: Sweet Meadow Farm pellets

I'm going to type in the ingredients from their website:

Crude Protein 14% Crude Fiber 25%-28% Moisture 10% Calcium .35%-.85%
Salt .50%-1% Crude Fat 1.5% Phosphorus .25% Vit-d 880 IU/kg Vit-e 140 IU/kg
Vit -a 20,000 IU/kg Copper 9 mg/lb
Stabilized Vit-C Ascorbic Acid Vit c 450 mg/kg Ascorbic Acid vit-c 992 mg/lb

Ingredients:
Timothy grass hay, soybean hulls, wheat middlings, soybean meal, cane molasses, salt, L-ascorbyl-2-polyphosphate (vit c), limestone, yeast culture (saccharomyces cerevisaiae), vit a acelate, vit d3 supplement, vit e supplement (locopherol), ascorbic acid, menadione sodium bisulfite complex (vit k), colbalt sulfate, kelp, ethylendamine dihydriode, riboflavin, niacin, supplement, vit b12 supplement, panthothnic acid, biotin, thiamine, choline, chloride, Dl-methlonine, pyrodoxine, hydropchloride, folic acid, sodium selenite, sodium bentonite, magnesium sulfate, ferrous sulfate, manganese oxide, zinc sulfate, copper sulfate, mineral oil, calcium idodate, potassium chloride.

Hopefully I spelled most of that right as it is a pic of a bag and I had a hard time reading some of it

Anyhoo, the ingredients look fine to me. I can't give any advice on how the pigs like it, have never tried it.

The light brown highlighting indicates cheap filler products.

The yellow highlighting indicates everything wrong with these pellets. I would not use nor recommend these.

hydropchloride- if this is hydrochloride it's not a good thing.

Re: Sweet Meadow Farm pellets

Thanks Ly&pigs. I was going to try it as it is locally available & would be less expensive than having Oxbow shipped. You saved me the trouble of doing that. I'll stick to Oxbow pellets. My piggies love those & they smell so fresh when you scoop them out that my piggies get all excited. I will try the hay if it looks good. I wish I could find a source for aspen bedding locally.

Re: Sweet Meadow Farm pellets

Thanks very much for the quick reply, Ly&pigs. I did look up the ingredient list for Oxbow Cavy Cuisine and saw a few of the same ingredients there; is there a page anywhere with the same sort of detailed information on good ingredients versus bad that the nutrition chart for vegetables has? I checked out the Guinea Lynx page on finding good pellets, and while it's got good basic stuff it doesn't say, for instance, whether one form of a mineral is better than another.

Re: Sweet Meadow Farm pellets

We mods are working on a pellet analysis (as we have time) thread similar to the one at gl but a little more in depth. We are gathering the ingredients lists for many of the brands of pellets and will also be explaining what many of the bad ingredients are and why pellets should not contain these ingredients. It may be a few more weeks before we have this thread up.

This is something I doubt we can break down. I don't have a clue what form of minerals are better than others.
