Do I need to peel bell peppers? I have researched several books and websites, but don't know the answer to this. Do I need to peel bell peppers? One of the sources (I don't remember which one) said that the peel is too tough. Most other sources do not mention this at all. If they can eat melon rind, is bell pepper skin really going to create a difficulty for them? We have only had our piggies (Coconut and Papaya) for two weeks and are still learning.

Re: Do I need to peel bell peppers? No you certainly don't, piggys have very sharp teeth anyway.

Re: Do I need to peel bell peppers? Gail and Mo eat them like no tomarrow. However, when we skin the veggies they tend not to eat them because they're too soft, so we leave the outer on.

Re: Do I need to peel bell peppers? I leave the skin on. Piggies do have sharp teeth...my piggies have shown me how sharp they are!

Re: Do I need to peel bell peppers? Chewing things with skins on, as well as eating hay are beneficial to your pigs...It helps grind their teeth down and maintain them at a healthy length (their teeth always grow). I give my pigs apple tree limbs to chew on, and I often give them left over rinds and peels from things like cantaloupe, watermelon, cucumber and apple rather than tossing it in the garbage when I have fixed the mentioned for my family. I give them our left over corn husks and silks to them as well.

Re: Do I need to peel bell peppers? I also read that in Katrin Behrend's book 'Guinea Pigs'. The advice about peeling bell peppers is complete rubbish. I don't know why it's in there!

Re: Do I need to peel bell peppers? The 'tough' skins of fruit and veg will also add a little to the fibre content of the pigsters' diet. Whilst I am so glad I don't have to peel the peppers (!) - it is important to remove the seeds.

Re: Do I need to peel bell peppers? To remove the seed, you just need to cut the middle out, right? I gave my girls some yellow Bell Peppers this morning and they were gone in 15 minutes.

Re: Do I need to peel bell peppers? My pigs actually enjoy eating the delicate center of the bell pepper that he seeds are connected to...it is their favorite part. What I do is cut all the outer part of the bell pepper off and slice it up, then I hold the center over my trash and wipe all the seeds off....rinse under water and slice that part up as well. The only part of the bell pepper that goes to waste is the seeds.
