Oxbow hay

I was just on their site and seen some hay's that looked interesting like the
Botanical hay, Oat hay and the salad style grass hay. Has anyone tried these with their GP? Does anyone recommend these products? I would like to get different hay's/grasses for my girls to eat but I am not sure what to get.

Re: Oxbow hay

There are other threads on it, at least at GL. The salad and botanical hay they usually just pick at, and it is rather expensive. The oat hay is fine once in awhile but it isn't a grass hay.

Re: Oxbow hay

I have tried all of the Oxbow hays. Includeing the Botanical recently. My pigs turned there noses up at the Botanical hay and the oat hay. But, they really did like the Orchard, Bunny broom and timothy. I thought they were going to like the botanical because it had colorful like herb buds in it. But, they wont touch it.

I may try the Botanical hay....my piggies seem to eat everything they can. It might be worth it.

I have the timothy oxbow hay, it was really cheap for me to buy in the 50lb box. My piggies love it!

Re: Oxbow hay

I got the Bunny Brome recently for my girls and it went down a storm! Now their hay mix consists of Timothy, Orchard Grass and Brome - lots of nice tastes for them

Re: Oxbow hay

I feed Oxbow Pellets and they are always the first thing to go. I mix it with another pellet to give a variety. I have never tried their hay but a friend has and her pigs really love it all.

Its a whole lot cheaper if you buy it on line though. I bought a 2.5 pound bag at pet food express for 8.99 and I got a 10 pound bag online for 10.99 or around that price.

I just got my first batch of timothy hay from oxbow and its nice and soft...the guineas love it!

Re: Oxbow hay

Yes, you are right. The bags probably are cheaper if purchased online but when you figure in the shipping, it would be cheaper to buy at the store. To ship a 5# bag of pellets would cost me almost 13$ to ship.

Re: Oxbow hay

I have found that Oxbow shipping doubles the price but if you do the math, you will see that it's still cheaper. If ten pounds costs, 10.99, even if the shipping is $20, that is $3.10 per pound. 2.5 lbs at 8.99 is $3.60 per pound. Of course if you buy more than 10 lbs., it gets cheaper. Iknow the shipping seems outrageous & I had to sit down with my calculator before I ordered.

Re: Oxbow hay

Some stores mark it up, so the cost is comparable. The stores near me will usually special order me a 50lb bag though. Ask around and see if they will do that for you. They used to sell 25lb bags

Re: Oxbow hay

Well it also depends on were you live as well. I live all the way in California and I belive the headquarters is in wisconsin (or someplace around there) I ordered a 10 pound bag of pellets and a 9 pound bag of hay and the shipping was $13.00 even...so it works great for me!

Re: Oxbow hay

I decided to order from KM and my order arrived today. I got the 5# 1/2 Timothy and 1/2 bluegrass and my girls are going nuts over it. They really like the bluegrass. I did order a bag of the Oxbow Botanical hay but not from Oxbow. I should be getting that this week hopefully. Can you buy KM products from other places other than KM's website?
