Need info. on not eating First of all let me say that I have been cruising this website for almost 8 months, and this is the first time I have had a question that hasn't already been answered. Thanks for an awesome site! Now my question, I fed my Ang Texas Flower some "Spring Mix" lettuces. Now he won't eat anything but that and hay. No pellets, no peppers, no carrots (a former favorite) Instead he just wheeks and wheeks when no one is forth coming with the Spring Mix. So my question is do I leave the pellets and other veggies in his bowl and toys until he eats them? Or do I just let him eat the Spring Mix until he gets tired of it? Also I know its a big deal if they don't eat, is it possible he would refuse the pellets/and or other veggies until he is sick? Sorry for the long post, please advise!

Re: Need info. on not eating Is this the Dole Spring Mix? My piggies absolutely loves the stuff. She is picky also, & will only eat carrots, pellets, & LOTS of hay in addition to the Spring Mix. I still try to offer our pig different veggies like peppers, etc. She NEVER eats them either. However she wouldn't eat anything but greens, carrots, pellets, & hay before trying the spring Mix either. I would weigh your pig weekly or every few days(same time a day), just to be sure. I would think that if he is eating those veggies & hay well, that is ok. Some people don't even feed pellets. My pig has never wanted to eat veggies other then greens & carrots, I have heard that other pigs are like that as well.

Re: Need info. on not eating The only problem is that without him eating pellets and only spring mix, I doubt he's getting enough Vitamin C. You will need to try other veggies high in C or get a Vitamin C supplement such as the Oxbow GTN-50C. I'd also advise not feeding the spring mix at all for a while and concentrate on a variety of lettuces such as romaine, red/green leaf and other veggies such as cilantro, bell pepper, kale a couple times per week, a baby carrot here and there and try other things such as cucumber and tomato a couple times per week.

Re: Need info. on not eating Did you try yellow peppers? My pig will not touch a red or green pepper. I tried yellow. I was putting fresh in every feeding. While I tried a different approach. I kept the same two pieces in the cage since late Tue evening. I feed her this morning & saw that she finally ate them. I know they were in there last nite. Hopefully she'll still want to eat her new ones today.

Re: Need info. on not eating I think that the more variety in your pigs diet, the better. I would probably feed a little bit of the spring mix still, but have a look at what types of lettuce are in it. Maybe you could buy a head of one of the types he likes from it, and start feeding that. The spring mixes are often mostly 'baby' lettuces, which I don't think have the full nutrional value of the full grown types, as they haven't been growing and soaking up nutrients from the soil as long. Another thing that I have done, that you could try, is to grate the veggie they won't eat onto the salad, and mix it up so they end up eating it attached to the other veggies. Works best with carrots and peppers and veggies of that type that grate easily.

Re: Need info. on not eating thank you for all of the excellent suggestions, especially the grating. I will try all of these until I have success. And yes it is the Dole Spring Mix and he is crazy for it! He liked both red and green peppers before this, but now nothing. And carrots he chips into little chunks and moves them around, but I don't think he's eating any of them. He is a funny guy
