Confusion

Hello, uhmm i was just wondering are guinea pigs allowed to have oats and things? Its just that at Badgworth we gave the guineas oats, and Cory also is fed a mixture of oats, bran and oatbran with his breakfast. My old guinea pig and rabbits also ate this and the veterinary nuirse said this is ok. However i have been told by one of my friends this is bad for them....... Is this true?

Re: Confusion

Guinea pigs should only have high quality pellets (plain), unlimited grass hay and fresh, balanced veggies. http://www.guineapigcages.com/forum/...arts-info.html

Re: Confusion

In addition to what VJ has said, I will explain why oats and other grains aren't good for pigs. Cavies don't digest grains as well as other things. Oats, oatbran and bran will cause obesity in pigs and may cause digestive problems as they are harder for cavies to digest. It would be best if you ditch this stuff and just feed the above mentioned foods.

Re: Confusion

I have now swapped completely to super guinea excel, although until a few days ago he had gerty guinea pig mixed in with this. I know on gerty guinea it was not that far down, but i am unsure on this stuff, as i emptied the bag of food into a storage bin >.< Ill check next time i buy one .

Re: Confusion

Ditch the Gerty Guinea as it's crap. Just switch them totally to the Supa Guinea Excel. The Supa Guinea Excel is the best food other than oxbow that you can purchase in the UK.

Re: Confusion

Yep, I agree. Mine are on Supa Guinea Excel (SGE) all year round, but they also get Oxbow March through to September (when I can afford to buy it online). I didn't realise just how "crappy" Gerty Guinea was until I switched to the SGE and saw for myself the difference it made.
