Question Will Timothy Hay hurt a cat?

I give my piggies Timothy Hay but my cat keeps stealing pieces also. I have actually seen one of the piggies stick pieces through their cage for her. Anyway I was just wondering if this was OK for the cat.

Re: Will Timothy Hay hurt a cat?

My cat loved grass! I think many cats normally eat grass to aid in digestion so I can't think that the Timothy hay could be detrimental to your cat. My dog used to steal hay out of my guinea pig's cage, I ended up having to raise the cage up out of her reach! I never find hay on the floor as the dog cleans it up before long!

Is your cat an indoor cat? I used to buy the sprouted containers of "cat grass" from the pet food store or bring him in a hand full from the garden. He always used to go nuts for it!

Re: Will Timothy Hay hurt a cat?

I have my dad's cat Sassy here and she loves Bermuda hay. I often see her eating the hay I drop out of the bin when refilling the pigs hay. It's ok for them to eat small amounts but large amounts might make them throw up (been there with Sassy).

Re: Will Timothy Hay hurt a cat?

I have always heard that cats and dogs will eat grass to acquire vitamins that their body needs. I don't see why hay would be any different.
Like the others have said, if they eat too much they may vomit.. I have seen that too. My dog loves to nibble grass out in the yard and then barf it back up. Blech.
