Pellet question...

I was wondering if when I get my new pig, when it comes to her pellets, can I just switch her to Oxbow or do I need to switch her gradually? I called the shelter to find out what kind of food they are feeding her, and they said they feed her SunSeed Economical Mix Pellets. Do we know anything about this brand? Would it be ok to keep her on this food, or do I need to switch her? Thank In Advance!!!

Re: Pellet question...

I'm not sure what others will tell you, but I would switch the food slowly and gradually so It doesn't cause tummy problems.

SunSeed Economical Mix Pellets
From the name, it sounds like a pellet mix and SunSeed is one (among the many) of the worst brands you can feed. In the past I have successfully changed brands of pellets without mixing/gradually changing over. If this is a pellet mix, you might try offering just oxbow pellets and not this stuff. If there are any problems such as the pig won't eat the pellets, then up the amount of veggies a bit.

Re: Pellet question...

I too think you should just switch. Sometimes I have Oxbow pellets, and sometimes I have KM's, and I switch between them without gradually changing them; it doesn't bother my pigs at all. And the sooner she gets off the mixed pellet and into plain the better.

Re: Pellet question...

When I switched I tried gradually, but my pigs just ate the junky sweeter pellets out of the bowl and left the more nutritious ones sitting. I wound up just dumping the old stuff and only offering the new stuff, they figured it out and no one's belly was bothered.

Re: Pellet question...

I switched mine all at once when I first got them and had no problems at all.
