Bluegrass Orchard hay?

I am at the end of my first KM's hay order. I have been giving the boys mostly timothy with a little bluegrass added in. I have very little timothy left, so I have been giving them almost all bluegrass. All of hay is wonderful and smells heavenly, but I don't think the boys know a good thing when they see it! They are not eating as much hay as usual and I have noticed that their poos are a little softer. Is the bluegrass "richer" than timothy? Should I tough it out, or pick up some more timothy until I can order and receive more Km's?

Re: Bluegrass Orchard hay?

Hmmm I am not sure what to say. I bought a box of 1/2 bluegrass and 1/2 timothy, and when I mixed it in the box I layered it (timothy then blue grass then timothy then bluegrass). We haven't made it through the first layer of bluegrass yet, so the pigs haven't been getting any timothy for the last week+. I haven't noticed any problem at all. Their poop is normal, although there is more of it since they are eating about twice the hay as they used to now.
I would just keep offering it until you get more km timothy. Pigs are pretty good at knowing what they want, and how much. They will eat the bluegrass if that is all there is. My pigs despise bermuda hay, but when push comes to shove, they will eat it.

Re: Bluegrass Orchard hay?

My girls are totally on KM's bluegrass right now and no problems either. I ran out of 3rd cut timothy about a week or so ago. My girls eat just about any type of hay I put in there but they eat bermuda slower than anything else.
