Hi, I would just like to have a thread all about the best veggies to feed our piggies. I would be grateful if you would add all the different ones that you give to your piggies. It would help me a lot as I feel I am giving my piggies the same things every day and i think it would help other people too. ![]() Thank you.

Re: Which vegetables are best? I feed my lovelys Red Peppers, Carrots [petite carrots, and I only cut up four of them], Strawberries, and Lettece. They seem to really like them, next time I'm going to buy those plus more that I've found are favorites around the forum.

Re: Which vegetables are best? The best list you can get, is right here: http://www.guineapigcages.com/forum/...on-charts.html It is a detailed list of all sorts of safe veggies and fruit, and it is color coded to tell you which ones can be fed daily, and which ones are best to be limited to couple times a week or month. My pigs always get leaf or romaine lettuce, green and red bell peppers, a baby carrot, and cilantro. Then, I add in different things that vary day to day, week to week, and month to month ...apple slices, strawberries, cranberries, corn husks and silks, parsley, green beans, pumpkin, tomatoes, kale and on and on...

Re: Which vegetables are best? My piggies looove freshly cut grass (from a non-high-traffic, non-sprayed patch), celery, apples and grapes in moderation, romaine lettuce, the occasional carrot, melon rind, strawberry tops, orange peels (just the peels, not the flesh strangely enough), pears, and almost any other leafy green i can get my hands on. This is with all the great help from the members of this forum, who taught me how to properly feed Gary and coax him into being a veggie fiend, because he refused to touch anything 'fresh' for months. <3 !!

Re: Which vegetables are best? Chard comes in red and green varieties. Both are safe to feed. Green is slightly more bitter. And as added info swiss chard should be fed other day to every 3 days. Since I had put that list up, I had found out it contains a high amount of oxalic acid making it not a good every day food.

I have got to try to remember to get my roll of wire and make a 2nd play pen out there, so I will have space to divide boars from sows when the time comes!None of the "babies" have been outside yet, so I can't wait until we can take them out for their first 'feed on the lawn'. Theya re going to go nuts! |

Re: Which vegetables are best? Liloo loves carrots and apples. And a lot of leaves, but I´m sorry, I just can´t find the translation of the names of these leaves to English. If I get, I´ll post here. I tried to give her banana, but she had no interest in that.

Re: Which vegetables are best? The link this_lil_piggy posted is the best source for veggie info, but this is what I give my pigs. Every day they get some leafy green, usually romaine, sometimes chard, red leaf, green leaf, etc, bell pepper (green or red usually), and a few baby carrots. Then, things that can be fed in moderation I rotate daily and weekly. They get cherry tomatoes, kale, parsley, grapes, apple, banana, cantaloupe, watermelon, bits of orange, cucumber (they love it!), squash, strawberries, celery, and anything else I can get my mits on. Moderation is the key!
