It's not a "good" food, but it's ok to give them small amounts of orange peel a couple times a week. |

Eggplant is in the nightshade family but it's not the same as deadly nightshade. If you are thinking about feeding it, don't waste your time as it's not very nutritious at all for pigs. |

Can zucchini flowers be fed to guinea pigs? They are miniture zucchini with an orange flower on top. I get them at the farmer's market here and they are tastey in a stir fry. |

I know it says 1-2 times a week for watermelon, but is that the same for just the rind? Just wondering because it say the rind is edible and we always buy a watermelon every week. |

Neutral : +1 (+1/-0)
Can zucchini flowers be fed to guinea pigs? Honestly, I don't know. For the watermelon rind question: I wouldn't give the rind more often than a couple times a week. My own girls have been enjoying a bit of watermelon and rind this week too. |

Hehe, ok. They go crazy for it. But we still only gave it twice a week. I just wondered if the rind was like fruit. Thanks for answering! |

I do not know how much of the things that do not say 1-2 per pig (or something like that) I should feed them. Is there something above or below the charts that I am missing? I just don't know how much of the food to feed them... |

Have you looked at the sample menus sticky thread? If not read over that and if you have more questions ask but be specific with what veggies you are referring to. |

I tried doing a search on "Zucchini squash" but received no results regarding my question - I'm wondering is Zucchini squash okay to feed regularly? It was labeled as, "Zucchini Squash" so I figured it was okay but it was throwing me off with the name including "Squash" in it. It's green and shares the characteristics of a cucumber and also came in yellow. |

It's listed under zucchini on the charts. The yellow one would most likely be yellow squash which is a summer squash so go by the guidelines for summer squash for the yellow. |

Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0 Are sugar snap peas on the "do not feed" list? Also, does Kale HAVE to be cooked to feed to the pigs? Are there any veggies that must be cooked in order to give to them? I would rather not cook anything (is why i'm asking)...they keep me pretty busy as it is! Thank You, kimmigirl |

Cavies are on that raw foods only diet. I know, it seems kind of trendy now but it has worked for them for generations. (tongue firmly in cheek) A good place to start is reading the past post in the diet and nutrition forum. There is a thread on nutrition, a locked "read me" that includes a pdf chart on common foods to feed, or not to feed, if that is the question... I straight way printed up a copy to post on the ice-box. It includes portion size and frequency. Both the kale and the sweet pea pods look to be in the 2-4 times a week grouping, but check it out. Happy popcorning and welcome to the neighborhood. |

I'd skip it as it is high in calcium. I also don't know the safety of it for feeding to pigs. They are on the ok to feed list, on my charts they are listed as peas, edible podded. They should never have anything cooked. Please read all the sticky threads in this section. |

Just a quick post, as I haven't really been in this section too much over the past few months since printing out the chart, I am seeing so much about Ly's new chart and am super excited about- how is coming along? Any ideas when you will "release" it to us? You give such great information, Ly, and all the members on here- I am excited to see and use it! Especially with how great the first one is- it'll be interesting to see how you top it! With all your knowledge I know it will be great! |
