| I usually just feed g-pig hay from a bale from my dad that he gets from the local farm. Well, My husband and I are moving into a new house and I was just looking at americanpetdinner.com and saw all the types of hay. What kind should I be feeding? Timothy gold hay, Timothy high fiber, Grain, mountain grass, etc? I know not to feed Alfalfa. Also, how do you usually store your hay? Since my husband and i are at my parents rightnow, I have just been getting the hay from the barn. now that we will be in a new house, I would like to keep it more contained. Also(I know..so many questions!) does anyone know of great places to get these types of hay that has great quality? I live in NW Wisconsin, about 40 minutes from St. Paul, MN. There are not too many pet shops, just petco, petsmart, and they have tiny bags that are expensive and my pig does not like half of them, or most of the hay is turning brown. Thanks! | Re: Why kind of hay to feed?? Any type of grass hay is great as long as it's a high quality. Good types include: Timothy (any kind or cutting), Bluegrass, Orchard Grass, Bermuda (coastal) grass. Do not feed the grain hay. It is a special blend full of grain heads and some of the grains/seeds may be too fatty or big enough to choke on. To store you hay take it out of the plastic bag and place it directly into a cardboard box or specially made hay keeper. This is so it can "breath" and not get moldy (moldy hay can kill your pet). Keep it in a cool, dry, dim place. |
