Hay mites question.

Stupid question but here goes. I am heart broken that I have to throw away a 50lb box of oxbow timothy hay becuase it may have been the source of the hay mites my piggies recently got. they have new hay now, but is there any way that if I leave the box for long enough they will all die? I'm thinking it's probably a lost cause, and that the dead mites aren't a good thing for them to ingest, but thought I'd just ask. It cost about $80 dollars (imported to UK) and it's so fresh and green and leafy! GGGrrrr. Word to the wise: don't buy a big expensive box of hay!
