Could I, in theory, use hay as bedding with nothing under it? i'm tried of fleece and its getting hot out. What are the pros and cons of just hay?

Re: HEY! I have a hay question You need newspaper under the hay. Otherwise the cage will be amazingly yucky and wet within hours! Pros:- You are providing unlimited hay. It is fun to play in (for the pigs, not us). Cons:- The pigs eat wet/soiled hay and could get sick. You waste a LOT of hay. It can be expensive to fill a big cage of hay. That sums it all up for ya. Basically I would stick with fleece. You could go halfers - half the cage newspaper and hay, half in fleece. That way you get the best of both worlds. You could use coroplast to make a ledge to protect the fleece from too much hay spreading over it.

Re: HEY! I have a hay question You would have to change the hay out every single day which could get expensive.

Re: HEY! I have a hay question Yeah. After I posted I thought: "If i were a piggie would i want to running around in my food and peeing in my food and pooing in my food. No." I'll try the half hay half fleece. that sounds good. Thanks!
