Doolittle refuses to eat hay. It doesn't matter if it is store bought or my daughter's horse hay. He won't touch it. Until he gets in the cage with the girls for them to teach him, will Tim cubes do?

Re: Not eating hay That's a good question. I would like to know the answer to that one as well. Sorry that I am not much of a help to you. Is eating certain foods or foods in general a learned behavior (form other pigs) or something that they can teach themselves? Hope that makes sense. ![]()

Re: Not eating hay Interestingly enough, after two weeks, the rascal is munching a bit. About 4 days ago we tried hiding bits of lettuce and cilantro in the hay rack and we also put hay in his salad bowl. This morning he was actually chomping away. There is so much for him to learn and I know the girls will make sure he learns! Thanks

Re: Not eating hay Kittn, thanks so much for unquiring on us. Yes Doolittle is doing better. Of course he doesn't eat hay like the girls do but that will come soon enough. He is getting neutered next Monday so he will be introduced in about 4 weeks. His cage is right up to theirs now and one day we will remove the grids and they will be one happy crew.

Re: Not eating hay I missed this thread before but the answer to the original question is that cubes aren't a substitute for loose hay. I am glad to hear he is starting to eat hay more than he was. Have you ever tried KM's hay? I haven't seen a pig yet that can resist it.

Re: Not eating hay Ly my wallet resists it all the time!! No he is eating much better. Thanks for letting me know about the Tim cubes. At the time I didn't know what else to do. Another month and the girls will make sure he catches up for lost time.
