PVC pipe for tube? What size?

I was at a hardware store and saw a 4" PVC "Y" connector that I thought would make a nice tunnel. I had a Guinea Pig when I was a young lad, but I can't remeber how big they get. I plan on giving my son and daughter a cavy for their birthdays and am planning out the cage. I saw somwhere on this site that someone suggested the PVC, but they didn't say what size. Is 4" in diameter large enough? I'm worried about it getting stuck and not being able to cut the PVC.

Re: PVC pipe for tube? What size?

Hi and welcome to the site. Is 4" the diameter or radius of the pipe? Guinea pig care has changed drastically over the years. I suggest you read www.cavyspirit.com for the basics and www.cavycages.com for cage ideas. It is best to get guinea pigs in pairs too, so you will need to get two (or more if you want).
Also...adopt rather than buy. There are hundreds of pigs waiting for a new home in shelters and rescue centres.

You can get either 4" or 6" diameter pvc pipe. I have the 4" diameter ones and the pigs love running through them. Even my fat sow doesn't get stuck. Are you making a C&C cage and are you going to adopt pigs from a rescue/shelter?
